I'm planning a cross build for, well, some cross and a spot of touring. Does anyone have any experience of running Avids with Campag levers? Would I be better off sticking to Campag cantilevers?

I've been running Avid Shorty Ultimates with Campag Centaur levers for the past two season. They work perfectly together.

The Ultimates are easily the best cantilever brake I've used. The set up is a bit fiddly to begin with, but once you've worked it all out they are easy to get just as you want them.

FWIW Campagnolo and SRAM use the same cable pull ratio for their brakes so work fine with almost all cantilever brakes like Avid, TRP and Tektro. Shimano now uses a slightly longer cable pull to achieve the same amount of brake movement.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
