Probably a million other threads on this but I want to be 100% certain on getting a good lock and I want to gage as much opinion as possible....

Budget is about the £70 mark, anyone got any special recommendations, or even links to good articles/reviews?

    For what?

Locking the bike at home, leaving at work, or carrying with you?

I use a 2 metre 11mm motorbike chain and lock (made by datatool) with a ground anchor, but then I don't have to carry it about...

    Mostly Steel.
  • Most likely I'll be leaving it in a council car park near a town centre. It's not ideal but my work is tiny. Literally no room at all!

I'd sacrifice a bit extra weight to make it as secure as possible

Why not leave the lock onsite so you don't carry it, then you can have the most secure lock with no weight carry to and from.
  • I could - but the odd time, I'll be leaving it in other places too. Although for that I could buy a cheaper option, portable lock?

Any good recommendations for a super heavy duty lock?

For mobile security I use these,

The Abus Granit folding lock is also worth considering but take a look in shops it is deceptively heavy but is compact

The motorcycle world is your friend.

Pick something from a decent manufacturer like abus or datatool, preferably thatcham approved.
    Here are some good examples

But if you hunt around there's always a sale on somewhere...

Problem is, if I wanted to nick the bike for parts, I'd cut through the frame/wheel...... so only lock up a bike you'll not be bothered about losing. And replace all QR's with bolts (pitlock if you can).
