Hi, Just wondering if it would be possible to change the ratio on a Ultegra 11 speed cassette? I currently have a 11-28 casssette and Im struggling at the moment with the hills/mountains in North Wales. Do Shimano do a 11-34 or 11-36 cassette for the 11 speed groupset? I cant seem to find anything online apart from a 11-34 / 11-36 shimano 9 speed cassette. Just want some easier cycling until my knee and ankle is ok, thanks guys for any help.

They do an 11-32 cassette but you'd need the GS rear mech as well.

    Hi Grill,

Do you mean the long cage rear mech? Sort of new to this

Just wondering if there is a massive difference between a 11-28 and a 11-32 cassette compared to a 11-34

Well a 32 gets you most of the way there obviously.

Assuming you run a 50/34 compact at the front the gearing ratios for each of those 3 large sprockets with the small ring at the front are as follows:
    34/28 = 1.214
    34/32 = 1.063
    34/34 = 1.000

So switching from 28 to 32 teeth on the largest sprocket will make a big difference. Going from 32 to 34 will make a smaller additional difference.

Here you go: 6800 11-32 and a matching 11 speed Ultegra Rear Mech - 6800 GS

Rose is always good for this as they give you the tooth specs for all their cassettes.

If you want to go bigger you'll need an XTR 9000 series rear mech (assuming it'll work with road shifters) and cassette which currently comes in 29er friendly M9000 Cassette 11-40t for a mere £280. Not sure if these will work with 11 speed road shifters, too new.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
  • Today I switched from a 105 50/34 with a ten speed 11-34 cassette to an Ultegra 50/34 with an eleven speed 11-32 cassette.

I couldn't really tell the difference between 34 and 32.

What I could tell the difference was the closer ratios on the cassette and the smoothness of changing.

The double stage shifting takes a bit of getting used to though. No biggie, but something to learn.
