SWorks Road Shoe - Ankle Pain

Hi. I had the exact same problem in the same place. Oddly it was only on my right ankle. I have quite skinny feet and ankles so perhaps this adds to the problem. But I solved it buy buying a leather heel retention pad from Boots the Chemist and sticking it on the inside of the shoe where the pain was. It has a bit of padding just under the leather pad which must just ease the pressure a bit. Totally fixed the problem instantly. They do seem to have softened generally after about 500km though. Saved a £260 shoe with a £2.99 pad.0

Just return them and buy SIDI. And never look back.Specialized Tarmac Sworks

Hello , Has anyone come up with a successful solution? Footbeds and insoles etc clearly are not the solution to a problem of the shoe chaffing the inside fore-ankle.
I am having an identical problem. I recently purchased (December 2015) a pair of these specialized s-works road shoes, red & white. I tried them on with no issues. Next day on the bike, almost immediately i started to get pressure pain in the same are of my fore-ankle on BOTH ankles. The front of my ankle on the inner side. There is a bone or tendon there. Well, i did 3 hours on the ride and i was in so much pain i had to stop cycling on numerous occasions during the ride. Both ankles were so red, swollen, and inflamed.
I tried to wear the shoes while i relaxed for example while i eat or watch TV -just to "wear them in" but that did not work. I went out for another ride and i had to return home within 5 minutes. The pain was dreadful! I have spent hours researching many websites and forums and I am shocked how common this issue is. Having ridden with the shoes i cannot return them now. ! Just hoping you came up with a solution after all. For example has anyone solved this with cutting the shoes at the affected area or using moleskin? Kind Regards.0 -

I have the identical problem with the S-Works XC MTB shoe - I'd assumed it was that shoe rather than the road shoe. I have the 2012-ish S-Works road shoe and they're fabulous - perfect fit. I've never had this issue with any shoe in my entire life so I think it's a nonsense to suggest the shape of the shoe isn't to blame.
On the positive side, I contacted Specialized in the UK to ask about this and they said just return them under their comfort guarantee.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
I had exactly the same problem. No, they weren't the wrong size. I ended up with a similar solution to Boonen, though it might be worth sewing the edges where you cut it.
It was pretty disappointing going from the previous iteration of the S Works (which worked perfectly) to the latest, as this wasn't really something you find out about after wearing them for 5-10 minutes in the shop when you're checking the fit.
EDIT: It's worth pointing out that I kept them. Cutting it wasn't a big deal for me and I liked the shoe aside from this problem.I'm on Twitter! Follow @olake92 for updates on my racing, my team's performance and some generic tweets.0 -
I had this for a bit, but I guess the shoe broke in because it went away eventually.0

Hi mate,
I had the same problem with them when I got them, over a couple of weeks the leather softened and it's no longer an issue...I wore thick socks and plaster where it was rubbing for a couple of weeks and it helped.0 -
I never had this problem with my older S-works shoes but have heard from numerous friends that the later models are not as universally liked.
Without trying to digress, one thing the OP may look to as an alternative is the Giant Surge. I am picking up my pair later today. By turning the sole, 90 degrees, hopefully this type of issue along with the fudging of fit with insoles is a thing of the past. Worth looking at.0 -

Mine rubbed on my right ankle where you are indicating when I first had them and I think its quite common. Stopped altogether after a couple of weeks and they are like slippers now. I have seen some people make a slight nick in that area but I didnt0
