Swapping tyres because of a damaged sidewall

Oh my god, my faithful Conti GP 4000's have had a bit of a sidewall failiure and whilst I'm preparing the legal papers for compensation because I can't belive components actually fail I'm thinking about swapping the front and rear tyres over.

Its a small scuff/cut, no innertube showing so I'm thinking that the front takes less abuse than the rear and should be good for a few more miles.

Any thoughts or am I going to die a horrible death?

If you're happy with the scuff - keep it on the rear.

A front failure is more likely to result in a horrible death than a rear failure.

Put a bit of a boot on the inside of the tyre as well - if it is a small scuff, a bit of gaffa tape will hold it together.

I've done 1000s of km on tyres with small scuffs/cuts on sidewalls. I'm still here!

    But, never on the front!

Good point, I'll get a boot.

Definitely keep it on the rear !

Worse case scenario with the front is that the tyre comes off and locks the front wheel sending you straight over the bars.

Back wheel - well you'd just skid.
