Either Shimano or Sram. Model depending on budget.

Can't comment on the x4 but I run an alivio on my 8 speed commuter and I am very happy with it.

Personally I would go for budget Shimano over Sram any day.

I have Alivio in both 7 speed and 9 speed on two different bikes.

I ran the 7 speed variant commuting in all weathers and riding all types of terrain for about three years, no problems.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
