Jump bikes?

Hey all,
I am pretty interested in a jump bike to muck about on over weekends and hopefully some long summer evenings! I've always wanted to do (and strangely had dreams of doing) some basic tricks and jumps on the street and at the local woods.
I don't have any real experience of more playful bikes as my background has always been more cross country/easy trail. However, I have been poking around the Internet attempting to find something suitable for being a bit silly on, yet on a budget.
My initial thoughts was something with gears and a suspension fork - the Mongoose Fireball seems typical. However, I have since spotted some bikes which seem more 'big BMX' in style with no gears and a rigid fork like the Identiti Document.
Both of the above can be had new at a similar price, although I will be keeping an eye out on Ebay and Gumtree for similar bikes in the local area. What do you guys think would be better for a beginner to learn on?
Thanks!

Think I have discounted the Fireball now. The Identiti Document and Specialized P1 are look pretty similar although I am sure there would be a slight difference in geometry.

Anyone have experience of either?0
