Hello folks,

I'm doing 28 miles per day on a CX bike running the factory shipped 28 chunkiesh tyres.

I'm looking to change to these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schw ... -prod24544

Do you think there is benefit in dropping to 25's or stick with 28's? I'm riding mainly on road/Tarmac cycle path with both panniers carrying kit/laptop.

Cheers,

Dave

Marathon Plus are probably overkill unless you routinely ride down glass riddled 'cycleways', try something lighter with decent puncture protection like Durano, Gatorskins or Espoir.

With panniers staying around 28 or going up to 35 makes sense, not much to gain from going lower, I only run 23s because the tyres with coloured (vanity) stripes only tend to come in 23.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
  • Cheers. Will have a wee looksy at your suggestions.
  • I've been using these for a while now:

Pretty bomb-proof and hard-wearing. The only real down-side is they tend to be a bit slippy when new, but the compound develops a bit more grip within a week or two. Being a bit of a tightwad the price is the clincher for me.

    Evans currently have 39% off GP4000S (last year's model), 23C and 25C.

Marathon plus are very sturdy, I have a set on my tourer - but they weigh a ton. I use Specialized Roubaix tyres on my other bikes and they're superb. A third the weight of the Marathons (240, vs about 750!) and good in the wet. They only come in one size of 23/25 which is the profile of a 25 with the volume of a 23 or something. Can't say enough good things about them. Never punctured them.

The Spesh Espoir Sport Tyres are very similar to the Roubaix and come in 23, 25, 28 & 30mm and £15 a pop
