Hey

I'm looking at getting a road bike and wanted a bit of help.

I've got a budget of approx £500 and so far I've found the following four bikes:

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/btwin-triban ... #avantages (when it's released)

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-f95-so...t ... forums.net

http://www.merlincycles.com/merlin-malt ... 60087.html

http://www.rutlandcycling.com/230968/pr ... white.aspx (being 6ft 2" i'm worried the biggest size will be to small).

What would you recommend I go for?

Thanks

Not everyone would agree with this, but I have bikes with Sora, Tiagra, 105 and ultegra and for me the biggest step up is between Tiagra and Sora. On that basis I'd go for the Merlin or the Moda. Both are reputable companies but for me Moda would probably edge it because in part at least Merlin'a excellent reputation derives from its quality as a bike shop more than its own brand bikes. Not saying there anything wrong with their bikes at all, it's just, unlike Moda, I don't know many people who own one.

Indeed. Especially if you don't really know what geometry suits your size and riding position.

That's the downside of the Merlin, nowhere I can try it.

I'm swaying with either the Moda or Merlin but i'm concerned the Moda will be a bit small.

From what I've heard Moda are a straight up company. If I were you I'd call them and ask them direct. Looking at their sizing I think you're absolutely right to be cautious.

This is certainly proving more difficult that I first thought, I keep finding a bike but it's not got the components i'd hoped for or it's a bit over budget etc.

I'm debating extending the budget a bit and looking at something like so:

    http://www.ashcycles.com/site/giant-defy-2-2013

I just want to know i'm getting the best I can for my money and I won't regret my choice.

Never easy is it?! All of those will be good bikes. At some point u just gotta take the plunge or you'll drive yourself nuts. Pick the one you like the look of, seriously.
