Hi, in a month I am riding (solo so far) from Westport, MA 02790 through Providence, RI, Akron, OH 44319 (not going through Canada), visiting in Carol Stream, IL 60188 and visiting in Naylor, MO 63953 and, finally, arriving in Mesa, AZ 85201.

Google Maps bicycle route is 66 pages (if I printed it out) worth of turn right or left in a half mile. I wrote down most of the cities, long stretches of roads or bike paths along the way, that only took up a half page.

Do any of you have any suggestions?

Looks like you need a Garmin?

You're planning on going in a month? Have you thought this through fully?

I agree, an electronic GPS unit would be a good start.
If the bar ain't bending, you're just pretending
  • rode from Las Vegas, 15,000 miles in 2 years all over the USA a couple years ago. Used GPS for a few dollars sounds great.
  • Spent over a year touring from Chile to Canada and never planned any more than about a week in advance. Planning ruins a trip like that. Just head for the most interesting looking roads on the map and camp on BLM land (in the US) when you get tired.

The total absence of planning did mean arriving in Vancouver in mid December once we'd run out of cash and road.

Arizona was the best bit of North America for touring.

    Have fun!
