I've got a specialized crosstrail hybrid and need guards to stop spray and mud hitting junior in his child trailer. I can fit any guards on the back but the suspension seems to limit my choices. Can I fit a full guard even though I have no brackets on the forks because its got a suspension forks? I really don't want to buy a full set of guards just to use the rear one then have to buy a mtb crud catcher for the front.

Good idea. So one of these on each side to give me a place to bolt the stays to. A bit of bending of stays and no doubt cursing (I'm not good at bodging so often end up doing some painful thing to myself) and it's there, full mudguards without having to resort to the MTB style guards. I like it. how different are these to p clips?

Basically I have this hybrid which is my new do it all bike (apart from my old steel steed bought 20 plus years ago for solo road trips). I need it to cope with soft trails like towpaths, old railway lines, etc but also the road where I fully intend to use it commuting and touring holidays. I bought the basic bike last year with a rear rack and child trailer. Now I am kitting up with the other bits. After guards it's panniers (for full touring with child and also commuting), then it's me with cycling specific clothing. After that it's a Summer holiday hopefully west coast of Scotland staying at hostels (if they accept 18 month babies that is if not camping with just day trips or at most 2 day trips from the base camp).

Did I say thanks for the advice? If not thanks (plus any other advice for newbies always grateful).

Do the forks have a hole through the arch (top of the lowers), many Hybrid ones do and you can fit the heavier MTB style single mount guards to it.
