Hi all, can anyone recommend a local bike shop or bike fit specialist in the Leeds area. I seem to have a problem and get pain in my right knee when riding on multiple days , say two or more days of about 50 km each day. I was thinking it may be a cleat position issue or am I wrong, can anyone recommend a specialist, I'm prepared to travel if they will be able to help.

Can't recommend any as I'm too tight to get one done myself, but this one comes to you! And it's W Yorks based.

How close are you to Planet X? I think that both of their stores do the Retul bike fit.
  • It's bunkum.

That's for all bike fitting is it? There's a lot of very well respected frame builders who's first job will be to "fit" you to the frame they're going to build....

If you fancy a spin over to Manchester and the Velodrome then:

They key thing is where in your knee the pain is. This narrows down the list of potential problems. Have a look on the web. I had inner knee pain due to my foot position being slightly off for me. Adjusted it and no pain since.

can't agree with that, I'm afraid. Nor, however, is it a secret science; you can find out pretty everything you need to know with a bit of patience and an internet connection. Having a turbo trainer and someone willing to take photos of you helps too. I've had two bike fits and, although I was only a couple of mm out with my own setting up of the bike, those mm made a significant difference to my riding. An experienced fitter has a wealth of knowledge that you can dip into. If you're currently in pain and can afford the money then - IMHO - it's a no brainer, even if it involves a bit of a trek. FWIW I would recommend Mike at BikeDynamics to anyone.

Agreed. Having had cycling knee pain cured by a bike fit (and mainly by the inclusion of a couple of inserts in one shoe and proper cleat positioning) I consider it money very well spent. No way I could have made the adjustments on my own as I have neither the knowledge or kit to work out what was wrong. Very few people would.

Similarly I'd recommend Bike Whisperer to anyone. The whole process was very enjoyable.
    Kinesis Racelite 4s disc
    Kona Paddy Wagon
Canyon Roadlite Al 7.0 - reborn as single speed!
Felt Z85 - mangled by taxi.
  • I had one done at Chevin cycles, Otley last year. I think they do 2 or 3 types (at different price points).

There is also a guy, Ian Blackburn, at elitephysio.co.uk. He's based at Cottingley, nr Bingley. He does physio treatments and bike fit assessments. He works with the pro team MTN Qhubeka. He also works with a lot of the elite racers around these parts. I don't know his £ rates but have a look at the web site.

    Good luck, Johnny

Big recommendation from me for Rich @ Pedal Precision if you don't mind the trip to Manchester.
