Just a few pictures of my bikes.

First is my rockhopper, just stripped it down and gave it a new paint job and converted to 1x9.

Looks better than most of the factory paint jobs, on any brand IMO

Nice job on the Gulf colours, is that your profession, or just a hobby?

You'll be wanting a chainguide on the Rockhopper I'd say.

Echo the comments on the paint though, looks spot on.

I read alot of articles about chainguides, saying you def need one and loads saying you dont.

So thought i'd try it without, not dropped the chain yet!

Dont use the rockhopper for much serious off road either so should be fine. Thats what the trek is for!

Are you using a narrow-wide chainring?

Yes it is, but it's not a Shadow Plus mech, as long as you're finding it ok!

Yeah it is a narrow wide chainring.

Also read a lot about clutch rear mechs, so thought I'd at least give it a go as it is without spending any more money than I needed to.

Cheers for all the comments. Especially about the colour scheme, took me ages to decide how to do it.

Love the Gulf colours on that. How did you do it? Did you just paint it blue, and just cover up the frame apart from the parts you wanted orange and spray again?

It's quite a lot of work. I painted it blue then rubbed it down, masked it up to spray the orange, rubbed it down again put the decals on and then a final coat of lacquer.

I guessed as much, looks like a pro job. Do it at home, or do they let you use the booth at work (assuming it's not your own bsuiness, that is) ?

No not my business, but did it all at work and sprayed it in the booth.

That paint job looks superb, great lustre.

As for chain guides, I don't have a NW on my (1x9) commuter, but that needed a chain guide to stop the chain coming off through gearchanges when the chain tends to whip a bit, gets worse as the chain ages and becomes more flexible side to side.

It's all brand new at the moment so hopefully won't need to buy a chainguide any time soon.

Will be interesting to see if it starts to jump off when the chain and ring start to wear.

I've had this problem. I fitted a brand new RF narrow/wide chainring about 10 months ago. Lost the chain maybe 3 times in that period. Replaced the chain that was fitted when the chainring was about 4 weeks ago. In that time I've lost my chain around 6 times. Think chainring wear is having an impact on its retention abilities.

I'm putting a proper chain guide back on tonight.

Cracking paint job on the Hopper. Fancy painting my bike?

I fitted a new chain and cassette with the chainring so I'll see how long it all lasts and which part fails first.

I'm open to doing paintwork if anyone is genuinely interested!

Do they let you use the booth on your own time for beer money jobs, or was it a one off?

So can/do you do out of hours beer money jobs? Bloke who painted my last set of bike bodywork can't use the facilities at work anymore, unfortunately.
