Athena 11spd gears

Good afternoon all,

I recently purchased a bike (s/h) with a Campagnolo Athena groupset (11spd) and powershift (i think), but i seem to have trouble with the gears. I've taken it to a shop and they've adjusted them twice but after a while of riding the problem seems to come back. Basically with the big ring at the front, i can pretty much go though the cassette at the back with no problems at all, but when i change to the small ring at the front, the chain jumps around on the cassette on the larger cogs. I've replaced the rear hanger (in case it was slightly bent) and taken the jockey wheels off to check the direction and clean, played with the adjustment screws and cable tension on deraillier (to be fair, i probably shouldn't of done any of that) but keep having the same issue. The bike had a new cassette and chain on just before i purchased it so i'm expecting it's just a case of getting the adjustment correct.
Looking at the campagnolo site it says you start with the big cog at the front, adjust cable and then turn screw to line up the top jockey wheel with the small cog on the cassette.
I'm a complete novice at bikes, and not entirely sure what all the screws/adjustments do and what position to start them in , and was wondering if someone could share some advice on how i can set it up correctly.

Many thanks in advance,

Download the relevant Campagnolo tech doc for a rear deraillieur. They are simple to adjust. Ste the limit screws first (those are the two small screws on the parallelogram body), then shift to 5th from smallest sprocket and use the barrel adjuster on the cable as it enter the mech to line it up. Bingo.

    Here you go...

  • Thanks. used the above as a guide and got them pretty much spot on.. Only i couldn't get into the last 2 big cogs on the cassette when i took it for a ride.. (And had to walk up a hill which was slightly upsetting)...

Going to try some more adjustments tonight and re-try. Then i can hopefully manage to get up a hill! - should of bought a compact!

    Cheers

    Two thoughts:

    1. Is your chain too short? Or maybe a more general question - is it the right length?
    2. Have you adjusted the tension of the derailleur? It's the screw near the pivot of the RD on the dropout - if it is too loose, then the upper jockey wheel will 'rub' the sprocket and may make it jump. See screw H in picture 11 on the above referenced document.
