Shoes - Flat vs raised heel

I noticed some shoes seem to have a fairly pronounced raised heel compared to the ball of the foot (specialized, shimano, sidi) vs some which seem pan flat (northwave, bont).

Is there particular scenarios or pedalling style which one suits over the other?

Currently using specialized shoes but thinking of trying bonts.

Nope, had a quick check on the carbon sole from heel to toe on my sworks and my gaerne s..
    pan flat
So not quite understanding , this raised heel thing?

There is usually a bit of plastic at the heel end so as to assist in duck walking for a few metres... but nothing to do with pedalling a bike.

JGSI what I mean is when you put the cleat flat on the ground the heel is raised vs flat. If you compare it to regular footwear its like comparing a flat shoe (trainer/flipflop) vs something with a heel (e.g. boot or something)

Suppose what I'm wondering is does a flat shoe encourage your heel to drop when pedaling more so than the raised heel.

Maybe its just my imagination but I noticed the line of the cleat to the line of the sole differnet when I moved from northwave to specialized. If you placed a flat edge on the base of the cleat like a ruler or somethign it was fairly parallel to the sole on the northwave whereas on the specialised the heel is raised

I'd not overthink it is ny best advice.... just search on here on" how to pedal" and watching paint dry becomes a better option.
