I noticed that there is some play in the chainset (drive & none drive sides) on my 2010 Boardman Team Carbon - it was getting dark as I arrived home so have only managed to have a very quick check but the BB cups don't seem to be moving in the frame and the hex key seems tight so I am assuming there is a problem with the BB and hopefully not the chainset.

A quick google search brought up http://aldousvoice.blogspot.co.uk/2013/ ... acket.html where the guy seems to have had problems with the replacement.

Has any one else had similar probs or replaced this model?

If the sizing on the newer cups is slightly narrower then would the chainset just be slightly closer to the BB or would an extra spacer/washer be needed?

Not quite your situation but the BB expired on my 2009 model last year. I just replaced with a "normal" SRAM BB, no extra washers etc and have had no problems since. More seriously though, I saved a couple of quid and went for the silver version and it's ruined the aesthetics of my bike.....

had same issue with mine. Changed BB and now it's fine. (old one had done approx 7000 miles though). It was GXP by the way, don't know what the Boardman has, so cheap enough.

Thanks - good to know the standard SRAM/GXP will fit okay. Yes would be nice if that had a black version too, an excuse not to clean it to often.

Had another quick look this morning and the play seems to be in the BB even though it spins okay so looks like a replacement should fix it.

The Token TK878EX seems to come in black but needs an adapter & Sram GXP XR Tandem version is in black but I'm not sure on the thread so I think I'll go for either the GXP Team or Token.

Not sure why they are about twice the price of the Shimano equivalent, though I suppose I can't complain too much as it has probably done 7 - 10K miles too.

Finally got round to fitting the GXP BB replacement and the none drive side crank seems to be pretty well stuck on - the outer large self extracting bolt/retaining bolt was missing, just the inner 8mm hex bolt which I've removed.

Is it possible to remove the crank without this - just riding until it loosens/using something else, etc?
