Offset shock bushes

Hiya,
Having upped the travel on my forks the other day from 120mm to 140mm (and yes, it's fine, my frame can take it) I have found that the BB feels a little high as it has raised about 10mm. So to combat this I have been thinking about offset shock bushes which will lower it back down again as for £20 from offsetbushings.com it might be worth a try. If not I'll relower the fork travel. The site says that it will Lower the bb up to 18mm if I get a pair.so does anyone use them? Are they good? Do they Slacken the HA too much? And if the only shorten the effective shock length by 5-6 mm how can the drop the bb by 18? And how do I install the new ones and remove the old ones?

I have tried a couple different offsets in my old Giant Trance. I found wear was a problem with them. They lower the bb by more than they shorten the shock because of the way the linkage works. Mine only dropped by 12mm.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Bad idea, but if you want to do it, order a few sets plus lots of DU bushes as they will wear out quickly.I don't do smileys.

load of crap. Had a set in my Canyon for a while, bushings didn't last much more than a month from new.
Get an angleset headset from Works Components.0 -

The whole idea of the offset mounts is flawed."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

2007 stumpy fsr and it doesn't have a 1.5" head tube, and I don't want to spend £750

Are you sure you can get offset bushes to fit your biks slightly odd shock hardware?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Would fit fine and would drop the bb a few mm I would say.0 -
Offset bushes made a small noticeable difference in my bikes. I wouldn't say it's worth doing considering the wear issues.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Main reason I went with an angleset, that and what it does to leverage ratios etc0 -

Changes it.
Made my Canyon felt odd at the end of the travel and it didnt suit how the shock worked.
If you aren't going to listen to anyone that has already tried and tested offset bushes and dont want to spend £75 on a better solution, just buy the offset bushes.
Then after you've been through a few sets of DU bushes, decide if an anglset headset will be better.0 -

The DU bushes are part of the shock hardware and not too cheap. It's the DU bushes and the offset bushes that both wear so its not a cheap replacement (£60ish on my Giants) plus it's not a 5 minute job to remove the shock, press out the old bushes, press in new bushes and refit the shock.
I got around 6-8 rides before I had to replace them.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Hmm your starting to convince me off them...where can I find out what size and where I can buy spare DU bushes, and is there a video online for fitting the offset bushes and removing the old ones?0

So would these DU bushes fit if I wore out the old ones? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/dt-s ... -prod23698 they're cheap0

The DU bushing is the red bit, the offset bushings are then pressed in.

What you do with your socks is your business.
The DU bushes are standard, the offset reducers are not.I don't do smileys.

Don't you just posh the new ones in with a vice? That's what the Fox website says0
-
No, you use a Fox bush press.
Don't forget bushes have an interference fit. If you press in too many sets you will loose that interference.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
You'll need polymer DU0
