Not too shabby at all mate, which is yours and which is your sons? Both solid bikes.0

Time to go out and thrash em, crash em and bash em. Only thing I would add is get some protection on the chain stays even if you have clutch mechs the chain can jump off and put gouges in the frame.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0

mine is the boardman my sons is the voodoo, I spent about 800 quid on the boardman and about 700 on the voodoo putting on better parts, but now I cant get my over weight son out on his bike, think iv just wasted a 1100quid0

the only 2 things left on both bikes that came with them when bought new are the wheels and frame the rest I changed (too much spare time and cash burning a hole in my pocket) I was going to go the full sus'er way but for some reason they don't do it for me0

You should have got your son to help with the building, perhaps he would have been motivated to ride the bike if he was involved in the building.0 -
i tried to get him involved but he is more interested in online gaming lol, he is 17 and is 17 stone he is only 5foot7, both me and the wife are not over weight, his weight was the reason i got the bikes in the first place, just can't seem to win0

And put a padlock on the fridge.
Seriously, though, if he showed no interest at the build stage it's no surprise that he's not interested in riding. Power to you for trying to do the right thing, but I suspect you've got quite a task on your hands. But if you can find a way of getting him through the first few months he'll probably start to find it addictive (especially once he starts to see results, physically), so don't give up too easily. Maybe give him the better of the two bikes. That might be one small incentive. Also, if he's a computer guy, have a dig around for the various apps that link to cycling (strava's the first thing that springs to mind) so that you're starting to relate the cycling to something that he's comfortable with. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Hi - I have a Voodoo too - Could I ask what upgrades you did to your Son's bike?
Did you stick with the standard brakes and crankset?
Thanks!0 -

He is more interested in gaming? tut tut. I once was too. (i am also 17 btw) Then i realised that Call of Duty made my blood boil, and bikes are awesome and fun.
Just force him to come out on a ride with you one day, and take him somewhere really nice to ride and he may really enjoy it.
Also try having a serious sit down with him and explain to him that he should be trying to lose weight, and you really want him to take up cycling to really get into shape.0 -

What I dont get is why you spent so much and put so much effort into changing his bike, if he wasnt riding it? Lesson to others here - get them riding first and THEN change the bike if necessary (much less annoying and cheaper if they dont take it up).0
