Need a new chain, looking at the chains on CRC theyre's a Deore chain for a tenner and an XT chain for £15. Currently have a deore chain but seeing as i have no qualms with spending the fiver extra for XT will the shifting be noticably different?

forget the shimano chains - KMC is the way forward - cheaper and better.0

Shimano chains are too weak. SRAM or KMC are best.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I used to be a KMC fan but having switched back to Shimano for a while they've been trouble free and seem to need less lubing than their KMC counterparts. Once the Siltec versions come out I doubt I'll ever go back.A Flock of Birds

I've seen a number of shimano chains fail, all on the pin joining them at the factory. SRAM rarely have a failure, KMC seem bullet proof. Deore chains may well last LONGER than XT, which is aimed more towards performance and weight than durability.0

My SLX chain was total crap and didn't last long at all, my XT chain has done twice the mileage and it still going strong. I normally use KMC chains as they do seem bomb proof in comparison.0

KMC make some chains for Shimano.
I'm always a bit suspicious when people say Shimano chains don't last because it's the most commonly faked component in cycling. Also the German road bike magazine I read have a rig designed to measure chain wear. The chains are left on motorized cogs running through an oil/sand mix. The longest lasting road chains are 1) Shimano 105 2) shimano Dura Ace 3) various KMC models and a long long way behind SRAM.0
