Frame Style

I have just started getting back into the world of mountain biking, and i would like to build a custom mountain bike, currently i have a 20" hardtail. The type of riding i do is mainly on trails and on gravel bike paths near where i live, i have the aim of competing in the 'Brighton Big Dog' and was wondering what type of frame would be best to buy; either Hardtail, Suspension, X-Country, Trail or All mountain.
Would appreciate any feedback, thanks.

I'd look at an xc/trail oriented hardtail. Look at the Decathlon Rockrider series.0

That looks worth its money, also should be good for what you want to use it for!
