Fox 36 suspension transportation

Hi All ,
Just picked up my self a shiny new bike after a few years away from the sport (I set up a business and my free time just disappeared) .
It has a Fox 34 fork up front , what Id ideally like to do for transport is drop all the air out of it and compress it, as it would make life a little bit easier, however I don't want to cause any damage to the fork . Is this advisable?
