Want some new wheels to reduce weight current wheels bare weight aprox 2300g !!! That's rims hubs spokes nipples , no discs etc

Thinking of getting some pre built onto hope pro hubs ( love the noise ) but they seem to be beefy options some coming in close to 2000gs a pair !

I ride trail centres cannock Gisburn Bike park Wales etc and am aprox 88/90kg rider weight

Ay help appreciated

Mavic XM719 rims are pretty good. Mine have taken a good battering and are still good.

Stan's Arch Ex's would be a good choice, you're perhaps a little on the heavy side to safely run Crest's. Go for hope's ready built wheels and they're no more than Mavics. They're wider so will support the tyre better and are dead easy to run tubeless to save a little more weight and added puncture resistance.

Got a set of hope pro 2 evos built onto Stans Crest 26in rims! Im 120kg I ride Dalby, Hamsterley and throw my bike around alot and ive never had a problem. Still straight and true as the day I got them (almost 2 years ago) also I run them tubeless...

great set of wheels and im a big fan of the Hope click....
  • If the calculator on the stand website is accurate then they would weigh about 1750g

Hope 2 pro and Arch EX rims

I'd be happy with that ...

Anyone know if that weight is accurate ?

Also straight pull or J spoke ???

Don't bother with straight pull spokes, can be hard to source, stick with traditional j-spokes. 1750g sounds about right, my crests/Pro2's weigh 1550g with lighter spokes than Hope use.

That's a brilliant weight for those wheels .....

I have read they are hard to find and also a pain to true however someone said they make for a stiffer wheel which lends itself to a "faster" wheel ?

J bend is the best option- far cheaper and easier to replace

Thanks and thanks everyone for their advise

Arch ex , j pull spoke , pro 2 hubs

Now just need to find a company to build them with gold nipples :D

Best wheel builder I have used is JD Tuning.
He builds a solid wheel for a very reasonable price and will either supply parts or use what you supply.
  • Where do people like CR, tweaks cycles and wiggle get there pre built wheels ? None of them offer nipple colour options and some have limited hub colour but assume they don't build them but buy them in ? Shame as they seem to have the best price
  • Looks like brass nipples too over the more pimp ally versions :(

I would avoid alloy nipples. I made the mistake of having a wheel set built with them. I use brass every time now.

Might just go for an all black wheel but a gold hub. I'd love a gold spoke to like slr style pimping :)

Seems they are not easy to find

Superstar sell gold spokes. I'm sure Halo do them as well.

Ss sold out :( will try halo

Any recommendations for the main spokes ? If you order a pre built hope wheel from somewhere like chain reaction or the likes what spokes do they use ?

In the situation would I be better buying the bit seperate and getting them built or ordering pre built ones.
  • Will see what prices I get for the individual items that way I could build it as I like.

From a mechanical pov, I think he means the sourcing too. Everywhere has a jpull spoke of some disricription

Although saying that. The flanges on the same hubs and spokes just different years meant that the later year's spokes did not fit the flanges of the former year's hub without a fair amount persuasion - on a straight pull hub, so actually j bends have a more or less universal flange interface so could actually be easier.
  • Thànks for that buddy. Just deciding now on pre built or buy the bits

Pretty much sold on arch ex don't think there is much in budget lighter and stronger.

Mavic EN 521 are an excellent rim on Pro 2s. Good weight. WIdth fattens the tyre up nicely. Very strong. Very reliable. I'm 98kg and have had no issues with mine in many thousands of off road miles. (Run tubeless with MudX in the winter and a variety of summer stuff but predominantly WTB Mutano the last couple of years)
