Simple question, is it possible to replace the hoods on Campagnolo Ergo levers whilst they are attached to the handlebars? I have tried but it doesn't look possible without applying so much force that the hoods will rip.

Yes it is possible. I had to do it when mice nibbled my Campag hoods on two bikes. Strangely, they left my Shimano hoods alone.

Yes. A small amount of isopropyl alcohol on the inside of the hood lubricates it fantastically and you can easily slide them off (or on). When you're done, It evaporates pretty quickly with no residue.

Washing up liquid works well too.

And throw them in some hot water beforehand to make them more pliable.
