Dead at 53 - On Renault with Fignon back in the day. Cancer as well I believe.

    Mentheour held the French hour-record for a while and won a TdF stage in 1984. He almost won one earlier, in 1982 – leading a two-man sprint against Pascal Simon 200 m before the line, his right foot slipped off the pedal when the toeclip snapped.

    Thanks for this - I saw someone tweet his death (JV?) but didn't know who he was. Sounds like an interesting guy who I am sure will be missed.

    They talked about him a little in the pre-race Paris Roubaix programme on Eurosport as he worked for them and he'd ridden with LeMond
