When pedaling forward the freehub slips and obviously no longer drives the wheel. Is this terminal?

    Yes.

Or no it depends on the hub.

Ha! Like it. It's an A2Z XCR.

    That is stripable and serviceable.

Get it off and see what has happened.

Is that something an amateur can do?

Do you know how to not damage things when using a hammer?

If yes then you could do it but if not sure .......

Google a2z xcr and chose images and you will see the insides etc..

I'm probably a dimwit, but I can't see how you get into it. There are no slots for cone spanners and no grub screws. Am I supposed to just whack the axle out?

Ok start off with just pulling on the free body it might just pop off.

Yup, after exhausting all options, that was it!

So loads of muck in the in pawls mechanism, which I've cleared out. A couple of the pawls weren't returning so that may be a contributing factor. They all seem smooth now. Presumably I should dab some grease in there?

Not sure about the freehub body. Does this look ok? They seem a bit worn.

Personally I'd clean it up a bit with a file and put it back on......but then having had a snip, smashed man bits are only a bit of short(ish) term extreme pain.....
