Scratch on Anodised Frame

Hi,

I have just got a nasty scratch on the non drive side of my frame, the frame being black and anodised. Back in the day I would just touch in the scratch and wax it up. However, I am guessing this will not work with an anodised finish so does anyone have any good ideas?

p.s. I know bikes get scratched, go troll somewhere else.

    No point in doing anything.

    It will oxidise in time.

    Rub some mud on it.

Get a marker pen to take the shine off.

Nothing you can do about it other than get it stripped and painted. My anodised Nukeproof Scalp frame is covered in scratches, I think of it as character.

You could have it re-anodised and possibly with a harder coating (there are different grades), you could even choose you own colour and a Matt or shiny finish, have a chat with Mansfield Anodisers.

Which will need a total frame strip down and when I say total I mean total. Everything removed that is not the frame material or you will kill the fluid in the vats.

So all bearings out. Any threaded inserts out.

    All that for a scratch.

Lot of work yes but he wanted suggestions and that's probably the best to fix a scratch in anodisation... Ott yes I agree.

A solution that has worked well for me for years. After throwing my Scalp through a rock garden an e thirteen sticker on the down tube and a TF Tuned sticker on the forks had it as good as new.

Not true. If you were really bothered, you could get the scratch re-anodised by Dalic brush anodising, without having to strip the bike.

If you're really bothered by it then it's a simple and cheap enough job to strip the bike and have the whole frame re-anodised (if it's already black you should stick to black though). But then you'll be doubly pissed off when it gets scratched again. I use a fine tip black OHP marker pen for disguising scratches on black anodised parts - it's not perfect, but it makes them a lot less noticeable.

Steel inserts can be sealed but the frame would have to be filled with fluid first or it would float. Quite a lot of hassle.

Agree with the above, black marker or black paint!

Thanks everyone. Black marker sorted it out - it was just too damn shiny on a Matt anodised frame.
