Hi, i have a 2003 trek which i bought from a friend to see if i would enjoy road cycling. I do and do quite a bit now, have entered an etape race. Anyway am considering buying new, budget up to £600. I am assuming things have progressed with bikes in last 11 years. Would it be worth upgrading, will i notice a difference? Thanks

    Hello Mini,

2003 Trek doesn't give much to go on... could have been a top sec Madone or a lump of iron and rust, but...

Does your workplace do any cycle to work schemes?
If so, look for a heavily discounted bike to below £1000 and get the scheme on that!

    Something like this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-f6-apex-2013/

On the scheme may take it down to your budget.

No scheme then, if you're not confident about bikes then second hand may be a mine field.

Otherwise for £600 RRP, you're looking at an aluminium frame, Shimano Sora, heavy wheels...... not very inspiring, your Trek may still be better.
  • Thanks for that. No scheme unfortunately. My current one is a trek 1000, which i think is the entry level one.
