This is bike n+1 and just finished building it up this morning.
A little different to the normal and tbh in quite a state cosmetically.
Adds to the stealthy please don't steal me factor I suppose.
To be used mainly for a 25 mile commute to work via slight off road (doubletrack) paths and for occasional laps of Rutland Water or the like.
Frame - 96 Zaskar 19" (Was hammerited black when I got it)
Forks - RST XMO (Air cartridges. Had them since new)
Chainset - LX
Derailleurs - XT
Shifters - XT (8sp)
Bars and stem - Scott something or other.
Wheels - Deore hubs with Fir 223 rims
Tyres - Hutchinson Piranha
Brakes - Deore V brakes with Avid speed dial 2.0 levers
Pedals - XT spd
All in weighs smack on 11KG as is.
Will see how it rides and might change the wheels, seat post and saddle.
In two minds whether to get F&F powder coated if I do the above.

I know 2 people who'll cream over that0

I very nearly didn't bother building it as I ideally wanted an 18" frame and thought this would look daft.
It seems to look ok apart from the poor stickers and colour clash with the forks.
I also have period XT crankset with sq taper btm bkt and a XTR rear mech that could go on, but what is there at the moment performs better.0 -

Nice.
I have a 1997 GT Zaskar in my collection. I have owned it since it was 6 months old.0 -
Time for a quick local blast.
What will break first - me or the bike0 -

Only had a quick blat round the woods and a few road miles (as this is more likely to be its area of use)
Through the woods it is very stiff and direct. Almost too stiff for my out of shape aging body
Handling is on the twitchy side of neutral, and it does suggest all out speed is where it would excel.
If I was going to keep it as an off road bike, I'd need a front disk and wider spread of gears on the cassette, but for its intended use it is more or less perfect. (Might fit some flatter bars and bar ends)
Impressed all in all.0
