Good Evening Gents,
I have a Standard Carrera Kraken 2013 I have been on a few trips with friends along canal paths and road trails around Loch Lomond. It was very wet on one of our trips and felt my current tyres slipping a lot, (mountain King 2.2) these are great for off road and single track rides but noisy and terrible on the smooth paths.
I am looking for recommendations for replacement tyres for my trip this weekend through to Falkirk and back... looking for fast rolling , tough, light and decent on the road/canal path.
last condition is i can get two for under £50!

Thinking These maybe??

obviously i have no idea, so any pointers would be much appreciated..0 -
The Race King won't be much better, if you want a road tyre get a road tyre. Schwalbe Big Apple or Marathon of similar. Dunno what you mean by 'slipping' though.0

I saw another recommendation for these Ritchey tyres and fitted a pair.

They do have decent grip and are surprisingly quiet on smoother paths/roads.0 -
I have a maxxis crossmark at the back and a monorail on the front and they are good and fast rolling on hard pack trails and pretty quiet on the roads as well. Not so great in mud though.0

I have a Spec Fast Trak 2.2 on the back wheel and it's super silent and effortless on the road. Drop the psi on the dirt and it's way grippier than it looks. Wouldn't run it on the front for any serious trail riding though.0

By slipping I meant, the back tyre would spin from standstill to accelerating, and the front wheel slid out from under me when making a left turn..
The mountain kings obviously didn't work, I cycled from Glasgow to Edinburgh yesterday so need tyres that would still be ok on canal path harpack, also a lot of glass and stuff around so.don't know if the road only tyres would be "sturdy" enough...0 -

Schwalbe Marathon, Big Apple or Kojaks, depending on how much tread you need. They're cheap, have good puncture resistance and last forever.0

Schwalbe Smart Sams from Next Day Tyres. Cheap. Roll very well on track / XC / Tarmac due to almost continuous centre tread with plenty of grip from side knobblies.
I use them for off road fun and commute to work on the roads up some very steep hills too with not much more effort than my slicks.Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

The Smart Sam is good for a little proper off roading, for packed gravel and road then a slick is needed, Schwlabe city jets are a great budget option while there are plenty of dearer ones (Conti sport contact, WTB slickasaurus, Spesh Numbus, Pamnaracer RiBMo for example - I've used all of these on my commuter), these have MTB thickness carcass so will resist punctures just as well as an MTB tyre, you can get some with a road thickness carcass though.
For the Money (a little over a tenner each) the CJ's are great, the others will set you back circa £25+ each.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
If riding purely on roads I'd go for a Schwalbe City Jet.
If you want to still ride on canal paths etc. maybe a Rocket Ron or Racing Ralf.
Or perhaps a Maxxis Aspen: http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/TYMXASPWT/m ... lding-tyreXC: Giant Anthem X
Fun: Yeti SB66
Road: Litespeed C1, Cannondale Supersix Evo, Cervelo R5
Trainer: Bianchi via Nirone
Hack: GT hardtail with Schwalbe City Jets0
