Hey,

My brother used my bike at the weekend and has managed to strip the thread of the left crank when he swapped the pedals. Can I just buy a new left crank arm or do I need to get a whole new crank set? If I can just swap the crank can I buy any crank as long as it's the same size? The bike is a Carrera Gyphon if it makes a difference.

Thanks

not sure if this fits yours but it indicates you can indeed buy just a left crank arm, or rather your bro can

  • Any crank will do, just make sure it's the same length and designed to fit your existing bottom bracket.

I've heard that local bike shops might be able to repair the pedal threads with an insert.
Basically drill out the bad threads slightly larger, then rethread to accept an insert into which the pedal threads fit.
That type of repair is common with auto and truck parts.

Thanks chaps for the replies. I've just bought a cheep crank. Brother is pleased it has cost him £10 not £60+.
