in line cable adjusters

I recently fitted a 6800 group on my Defy frame and forgot to buy a barrel adjuster for the front mech :oops: After a lot of messing about, I got the mech tensioned correctly without an adjuster but I dont fancy doing all that faff again when I move this group on to a R872 in a few months. So I'll probably order these http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... ers-31601/ I was just wondering what the cable ferrule with the knurled collar is for? Do you use one 'normal' and one 'knurled' on each adjuster?

    I have bought and use these on my TT Bike, it did not come with a nurled ferrule. I think its a misfit in the photo.

    A bit like a bike spotters where's Wally.
