Campag Veloce crank issue

Hi Guys,

I've had my new bike for a few months now (and strava suggests I have only done 589 miles) and on my last ride I noticed I was getting a clunk through the left crank arm at the top of the rotation. I took the pedal off and have found that a washer type part has come away from the crank arm. On the right side it seems that this is normally under the paint. Cranks are Power Torque Veloce compact ones.

This is a photo of the washer type part https://www.flickr.com/photos/46566789@ ... am/player/

This is a photo of it in relation to the crank arm https://www.flickr.com/photos/46566789@ ... am/player/

And this is a photo of the crank arm without the part https://www.flickr.com/photos/46566789@ ... am/player/

Now should I be worried and does anyone have an idea of what I should do? I was wondering if some kind of glue might be an idea. If I don't use the washer thingy then the pedal sits a few mm further in to the crank but at least it no longer clunks!

If you look carefully and clean things up or feel you will see/feel that there is a rough edge.

I would say the pedal has been lose and broken the shoulder off the thread insert.

  • Thanks, I presume you mean the washer should feel rough? It feels super smooth on all sides, I wondering if it is what you say that on these cranks it is just bonded in then painted over.

The pedal didn't 'feel' loose when I removed them but maybe they were in the past

I an just saying what I see in your pictures.

Something looks broken. Or it could just be crud.

  • Update for posterity: I added some epoxy and then tightened the pedal up nice and tight. No more clunks on this weekends ride.
