Helmet - ideas please

Hello All
My helmet is a bit battered i would like something which offers a bit more protection at the back, something a bit more AM than XC.
I am replacing my 4yr old cheapy and, following a Birthday, have a few quid to spend but sub £100. The POC and Urge appeal to me but they look a little bulky.
So what are people using / would recommend?

I'm using the 661 Recon helmet and would recommend it, its light, great fit, looks good and has good all round protection.

So am I and like it a lot. But the usual caveat is they fit all people differently.0 -

they should be banned from calling them enduro helmets since you have to wear a FF for the downhill sections.0

which is a bit silly since these "enduro" helmets offer no extra protection from common crashes0 -
I have the 661 Recon, and it is a good helmet, but then I bought my girlfriend one of these for substantially less...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Uvex-I-Vo-Hel ... 485fcc733f
and I prefer it to the 661. If she's not rinding then I'll always grab the UVEX over my 661.All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

I have just got a Fox Flux. Leasure Lakes had them for £40. Probably good if you have the right shape head. My head is not the right shape.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

I had a 661 Recon and never got on with it, plus the retention system was awful, never stayed put. IXS Trail RS gets decent reviews0 -

There's a joke here somewhere involving looking like a dick, helmet, head protection etc but I'm too tired.0

No arguing with that. But there's little more dickish looking than a cyclist 'sans helmet' with a smashed up head.
Lots of good helmets have been recommended - best to try and see what fits/is comfy0 -
Bell Variant http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/protection/helmet-standard/product/review-bell-variant-helmet-11-34808/ You can get 1 for less than £40 online.

661 Recon here too, had it for just over 2 years and its still just as cool (as possible). Lots of vents to keep your head cool and fully removable padding so they can be washed.

Thanks for all the suggestions - 661 and Giro look promising and £40 for the Giro appeals if I can find one. Troy Lee A1 would be a consideration but bled front brake yesterday and the end result was air escaping the seal behind the piston o-ring thus a whole new brake ordered (not a story for this thread before anybody starts . Over a £100 on a helmet is off the agenda.
Interesting no one recommended a POC or Urge - maybe not a surprise.Family, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there
