Hey guys!
So I'm a complete novice when it comes to the MTB world so unsurprisingly I'm looking for a little guidance on my first decent bike.
As it's says in the title I'm looking at spending around the £400 mark (if I can get the bike cheaper, I'm not going to complain)
What I'm wanting to use it for is just some regular cycling to and from the gym (part road and can take a little off road) also to tackle a couple of trails up near Dalby Forrest in N.Yorkshire.
I've done a bit of research and scowered through here a little and it seems like a I can get a decent entry level bike at the price and handrails seem like a decent route to take. But I'm not too clued up on what all the specs are able to bring to the table for me. That's why I don't want to just jump head first in, buy something knowing that better alternatives could be there and not just something on sale that's garbage.
Does anyone have any solid recommendations I could take a look at or help me decide what is gonna give me the most for my money.
Cheers very much in advance guys

look at the Vitus Bikes Zircon 29 Hardtail (CRC) or the BeOne CRD Race Alloy 29er (merlin cycles) both got big wheels though which you may or may not want. Vitus looks good but it has mechanical disks as opposed to hydros. It has a rockshox xc30 shock which I have on one of my bikes and they seem pretty good for smoothing out road bumps with some minor trails.
The BeOne is right on your price cusp and pretty nice with hydo brakes but the trade off seems to be the rst forks which aren't that great but would be ok for a starter bike. It also has a deore drive train which should serve you well.0 -
i feel like im leaning towards the Zircon 29, just sadly OOS at the moment. Sods law i suppose ha0

Well that sucks it was in stock first thing this morning. Frankly that BeOne has the superior drive train/ brakes IMO and should you feel you needed more fork in the future a xc30 fork is under £100 as an upgrade or £120ish for the xc32 which I also have and can recommend. The 32mm stanchions on the xc32s feel way plusher.0
