Campag Shamal vs. Eurus

Hi, What is the consensus between these two wheelsets? I'm looking at upgrading my Mavic Kysyrium Equipe wheels for a new set and really like the look of the Campagnolo Shamal Ultra Mega G3 Tubular's. I thought I'd try Tubular's and set them up as my best / race wheels.
I cannot see if the Eurus come as a Tubular, however, both wheel sets come in a two way fit clincher / tubeless.
The specified weghts are Shamal 1425 and Eurus 1500 (2 way fit)
Shamal = £695.99 Tubular, £644.94 two way & £627 Clincher
Eurus = £515.78 Clincher, £514(?) two way
I think as a member of British Cycling I get a 10% reduction on the above prices via wiggle, although I need to look into this.
Last summer I rode on 23mm Schwarble Ultremo ZX and for winter I've wacked on some Conti GP4000 s 25mm which have been great.
When I say race, I enjoy thumping around the odd circuit and entering a handicap or two and would like to make 3rd Cat this year, albeit I missed out last year with 7 points. Have two in the bag already this year.

Campagnolo should come out with the Shamal Ultra Mega Hyper, which are supposed to be even better than the Ultra Mega....
What the fxck is wrong with them... how can you call them Ultra Mega???
Anyway, tubulars rock of course and if you are blessed with smooth tarmac, they are the real deal
On the other hand the Eurus are 2 way fit, so you can go tubeless, which is nearly the real deal, if you can force yourself to ride Hutchinson, that is... :roll:left the forum March 20230 -
Its all just a bit mega really.
My Dad gave me a pair of handbuilt Campag Sigma's on Super Record hubs which are Tubulars and they come in at 1400 with tubs. The problem is i cannot get a ten speed block on them.
I ride them on my steel Condor and have raced them and wow they are fast!0 -
Mmh, yeah, those 1990 rims were 300 grams each or so... bit buttery, but if they work for you the same concept can be replicated with some shallow carbon tubulars... something like these

Should easily build at 1200 grams for the set or lessleft the forum March 20230 -

They don't call them 'Ultra Mega' though. They are simply Shamal Ultra, as here on their website http://www.campagnolo.com/jsp/en/wheelsdetail/item_shamalultratub_catid_10.jsp The 'Mega G3' is just the term for the spoking/hub design on the rear wheel.0 -

Yeah, but the chinese jobbos would be a lot cheaper, which is good if you are racing on a budgetleft the forum March 20230

Isnt the Shamal the same as Eurus but with a carbon hub? There was a plain non ultra Shamal a few years ago and Eurus is the same as that. There was once a Neutron and a Neutron Ultra the latter having a carbon hub now there is just a Neutron Ultra. Maybe soon there will be a Neutron Mega Ultra. These Italians...Pegoretti

Shamals have zircal alloy spokes, Eurus are steel. I've had some Shamals for a few years - a lot nicer than the Ksyrium SSCs they replaced. Don't discount Neutrons either.
Had a pair of Sigmas on C-Record hubs - regretted selling them though.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
Seems like they both have alu spokes the only difference is ceramic bearings and carbon hub. I thought the spokes on my Eurus were alu having had to replace two of them.Pegoretti

My bad - latest version does indeed have alloy spokes.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

If you like tubular by the Shamals if you don't you have a choice don't you and both will be decent. I think on yer bike is right about the diffeneces and ceramic bearings and a carbon hub shell does not mean a better wheel but a more blingly one.
I have old super champion arc d ceil tubular rims on record l/f hubs man those wheels are simply lovely. Must ride that bike again it does not get used enough use. Light rims feel good and the braking on carbon rims is probably as good in the wet as get of the single pivot brakes on this old Alan. Win win I'd say.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
Some Eurus arrived this week - only I haven't yet got the bike to go with them! They certainly look the bizniz. Bike is on its way from Italia....Commencal Meta 5.5.1
