Removing tub glue from tyres

My tubular wheels got written off by a car so are getting chucked out. However, the tubs are quite alright and I would like to use them again on the new wheels.

Any ideas as to how I get the glue off them without damaging them so that they're a nice and clean surface? Do I even need to bother given that they're being re-glued to the new wheels?

  • Don't bother. Thin coat of fresh glue on them before you mount them on glued rims etc etc
  • That's what I suspected, thanks for confirming.

Don't bother, you can only damage them by trying to remove the glue

Usual way to stick them on is to put a layer on the tub and a layer on the wheel and leave overnight, then put another layer on (usually recommended on the tub but I reckon it's easier and less messy on the wheel...)

You've saved putting that first layer on the tub.
