Hello, I am looking for a bike for my little girl as she has grown out of the pink thing she has at the moment. I am looking at the Rockrider 5.3 for her but would like to know if the forks can be adjusted for her lighter weight than what they are set up for from the shop.? She seems to be in the right size range for the small frame and can reach all the controls.

Many thanks

K

    It's a coil fork, so the only thing you can do is swap out the spring for a softer one... these forks come with 'hard', 'medium' and 'soft' springs, but you may have to ask what's inside as it does not say on the spec. My 12 year old's Rockhopper actually came with a soft spring, but he's only a shade over 5 stone and it's still way too firm for him.

    I can't find the spring rate chart for Suntour forks, but I saw something on another forum which suggested that the Suntour soft spring is pretty soft... not sure what all this is, but I'm assuming that the 0.37 kg of force to move 1mm for the 'soft' compares to 0.67 kg of force for the medium.

    Hard FEP529-10 17.2 235 3.8 27 8.2N/mm{0.83kgf/mm}
    Standard FEP529 17.2 236.5 3.7 30.5 6.6N/mm{0.67kgf/mm}
    Soft FEP529-20 17.2 239 3.2 33 3.7N/mm{0.37kgf/mm}

    EDIT - different part number but FEP251-30 might be the right spring - £10
