Why doe all the hi viz type people wear green/yellow but I nearly never see any orange.
I think orange is even more visible than yellow/green. Something to do with yellow is for road workers & orange is for rail workers?

the human eye is more sensitive to yellow than orange, visual peak is green but that's not a good choice due to foliage and green lights for 'go'
but sometimes orange is preferred, either because it stands out better than yellow in some environments, or because yellow/orange have specific connotations in contextmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Orange is also the last colour the human eye can see before our vision goes black and white in low light, so it's a decent choice. I use altura orange night vision clothing but still got SMIDSY'd before Christmas lol.0

Rumour has it that orange is 'this year's colour'.
Cyclist magazine has two pages of orange kit in the new edition..... :shock:0 -
Bare in mind that the actual hi-vis part of the garment has nothing to do with the colour but the reflective strips. the higher standard clothing has more of this highly reflective material and it is designed to reflect light from sources such as vehicle lights.0

at night, the retroreflective material will dominate, if the driver has their lights on...
otherwise it's the fluorescent bit that is more visible, in daylight it'll dominatemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Orange is used on railways as yellow is too close to signal aspects used on UK railways.0

Apparently, chartreuse is the colour to be seen in. According to Rapha anyway0

Hi vis pink is easy to spot. Try wearing that.0

I have an orange reflective running bib that I sometimes use... Rather fetching I think0

Only people that are residents at Broadmoor should need to wear Hi Vis vests,in any colour of their choosing.Cervelo S5 Ultegra Di2.0

I quite like the orange kit. I have a lovely SS top in Orange.
Rain jackets should be bright though - I nearly bumped into a bloke on a foggy day on a bike - wearing a grey rain jacket. In fog. I was on my bike too !0 -
I expect the safest stuff to wear is a police officer's uniform.0

Pink and Orange are excellent in mist/fog when yellow just dissapears (personally I think yellow works better most of the time though) but as you say there isn't all that much of it around.
As has been said, moving shiny things like reflectors and lights are actually better than colours anyway as they're harder to tune out than even bright static objects.0 -

Yeah, I saw that and quickly turned the page
Who decides this stuff lol.
As orange is a rare colour in cycling anyone wearing it will be classed as a fashion victim.
A bit like when white cars became trendy.
Before that white cars were considered naff. So much so the police started to use silver ones so that they were easier to resell.0 -
But orange is a very popular colour in cycling, certainly in the Basque region.............0
