Hi all,

For those of you who read my recent saga re a new bike purchase from an incompetent store owner here is a reminder.

Having witnessed the bike store owner clamp my frame on the upper seat tube I have decided to investigate an unusual pattern or crack on the down tube in more detail. When I pointed out the error of his ways he snarled back that he was only "holding the frame".

There are no bump or split carbon threads, the topcoat is not cracked either. This is under the topcoat and can't be felt with my nail. Its not a scrape, to me scrapes run more angular and can be felt in the topcoat.

BTW its a Felt F1.

I would appreciate some responses from those in the trade as this has the potential to go legal at this point. I might add I still don't have my grommets or skewers as outlined in the thread.

Not sure about the frame damage, but your chain and ring gear look in sh1t state.

One would question how well you look after the bike in the first place. Not suggesting you are at fault for the damage but the chain rust does make it look a bit neglected.

That 'crack' - or whatever you want to call it - is nothing of the sort, I reckon. If it was, the top coat would be cracked as well. It might just be a blemish on the carbon layup.

Incidentally, there is no particular issue with clamping a carbon frame on the seat tube, or anywhere else. The trick is not overtightening it - which it doesn't sound like he did.

If the resin or top coat was fractured it will look like stressed plastic - that crystal type look.

TBH It doesn't look like a fracture. Its shape is more like a manufacturing defect which can be common on naked carbon frames.

But yeah - your chain etc looks in bad nick.

Set your camera to macro mode and post us a closer more detailed pic if you can.

:) the chain is a bit rusty. Tbh I have ridden this bike only once and in the rain. Stored it indoors for a few weeks and that's the result. I do look after my kit and I like things 100% especially when I'm paying hence the rant..

Is that why the chain looks in such a state and the big ring looks ready for the scrap bin..?

Listen, it's your comments that don't match the pics - not mine.

:) it's a brand new 6780 chainset. Well to be exact it's covered 100km. If I had of known I was submitting to a beauty parade I'd have given it a bang of a cloth and a splash of 3 in One.

    Self inflicted wound.

Leave a perfect chain three weeks in water and it will rust.

Leave a rusty chain a pfewxweeks in oil and it will not look rusty.

You post the picture, you pay the price.

Rather than ask random folk on the net. Take your bike to another shop and get it looked at.

(They can see it in the flesh, so to speak)
