I've just got a nice new bicycle http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/sirrus-elite-disc-2014-hybrid-bike-ec053140 and it's great but the supplied pedals are driving me mad. After getting used to spds on my old bike I just can't get the hang of the toestraps. I try to get my feet in as I cycle off but half the time I get the wrong side of the pedal and the toestrap gets caught against the ground and scrapes along against it. Unsurprisingly one of them has already broken.

I think spds are great but I use my bicycle for getting around town and I don't want to be wearing cycling shoes if I'm going out for the evening. Can anyone recommend a sort of hybrid pedal with spds that I can use with ordinary shoes as well? I don't mind having toestraps on one side and spds on the other but if the toestraps are going to scrape along the ground when I'm using the spds then they're useless.     Although tbh, I use SPDs and just ride ordinary footwear if required - or I've got the clipin platforms.
    My wife has the SPDs with the platform around the outside, but the SPD bit is slightly raised so it's not quite like having flats but close enough for casual rides I guess.

    Thanks, have ordered some. I did have some platforms on the spds on my last bike but these look like the surface area may be a bit larger.
