Help....could anyone enlighten me on internal cable routing.

I need to replace the cable to my front mech, with my bike having internal cable routing can I assume that the internal section has some type of sheath within ?

If I remove the current cable will I be able to just feed the new cable through the shifter straight into the external sheathing and then into the internal, if any.

Sorry for being a bit thick, but internal cables are all new to me. Any and all help will be greatly received.

Not all frames have sheaths or channels. A Dolan I bought had internal cabling with in built channels making it easy to thread replacement cables, but my Basso and Wilier don't have channels or sheaths. I use a piece of cotton tied to one end of the inner and suck it through the hole with a vacuum, before carefully pulling the cable through. This is fine for the Basso and the Wilier other than the cable threaded through the chain stay where I have no voice but to keep persevering with trying to thread it through by feel as I can't get enough suction through the cable outlet to suck the cotton through.

Trick is to tie the cotton to the inner BEFORE pulling it out, then it's already threaded through in order to pull the new inner in.

Yeah not when it's a new frame you're building up for someone and there's no cable in it to tie the cotton to. :D

My new frame came with nylon wires run through to allow easy cable installation :-)
