I'm looking for a mountain bike (front suspension) for the wife. Must be light. Something like a carrera kraken/gt avalance kind of range

She always complains that my bikes are too heavy. What is the recommended used bike that is light and similar to the above to? ie are there other carreras or gts or specialized etc I should be looking at

Many thanks in advance

I built up a Small Spesh Hardrock for my missus (frame about 1.9kg), whole build comes in around 12.5kg without trying very hard. Forks, wheels and tyres are easiest and most significant weight savings, so it's jst a case of choosing things carefully.

    Budget? Light isn't normally cheap.

Built my wife an On One Inbred 14". Whilst the frame isn't light I built it up using a lot of s/h and bargain bin light components and she loves it. Really likes the slightly more compliant ride and the weight has never been an issue.

For that sort of money, you could pick up a 2009-ish Trek 8000-8500 (white and black colour scheme) on ebay. There are usually 17.5" most months.

I am not sure there are that many lighter off the peg bikes at that sort of money, that is until the poster below tells me I am wrong!

My wife has a 2009 Trek 8000 and loves it.

Last year my missus bought a Womens Cannondale sl4. I was surprised how light it felt. She absolutely loves it and uses it every chance she gets. I see Pauls Cycles have them for £499. It is a nice bike.
