Campag 8spd chainring on 9sp chainset?

As per the title, are the two compatible? The chainset is 9spd Record and I think the 8spd rings are Record too. I guess this is really two questions - will the rings fit on the chainset and will the 9spd chain run ok on it (doesn't have to be perfect shifting as will be for my commuter/winter bike).

    No worries - whilst 9 speed chain is narrower by 0.5mm externally, the internal width is pretty similar and therefore will run on an 8 speed chainring with little difficulty. Chainring fitting should be OK too - Campagnolo standardised on 135mm BCD with the introduction of 8 speed.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
