Getting A Bash Guard - Should I Replace 32T Middle Ring?

I'm looking to get a bash guard, right now my chain rings are 44A x 32 × 22 T. I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of thing but did some reading and found out I need to get rid of the 44T ring to make room for a bash guard. I also saw people recommend replacing the 32T middle ring with a 36T. Should I change it?

I'd say yes, change it. but it's all down to personal taste really. I think even though a 32 will be easier going up hills, you'll probably find you spin out going on fast downhill sections.

I put a bash guard on my 44/32/22 triple. as you said, I binned the big ring and went for bashguard/36/22 and find it perfect.

Good stuff, thanks. So all I'd need is this in 36T http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/e-th ... -prod87845 and this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/blac ... prod111983 and I'm good to go?

You don't NEED a 36t ring. It depends on the terrain you ride and how much you drop from the middle to the granny ring as it is. If it's never, and you spin out when you're going DH then go for it. If not personally I'd wait to see how you get on before buying unnecessary things.

That ring is designed for Singlespeed or 1x use, so it wont have ramps on the teeth which make shifting easier, i dont know if that means that you cant shift from it all, or whether you'll get away with it. The bash guard will be fine though mate.

but if he buys a 32t bash guard and it's too small he'd have to buy another bashguard anyway.

Not if he buys a bash guard that will will likely be one up to 36t anyway. He was talking about the chainring size, so he won't have to buy two things twice

He would if he bought a bash ring to fit a 32t chainring.

But you're right if he bought a bigger bash guard straight off he wouldn't

Ah right, OK. What type of ring do I need to get then?

Go for one that suggests it's a middle ring, something like this....
