My Sister has asked me for my opinion on a mountain bike she is getting for her partner. I only use road bikes so have no idea. Is this bike any good? Very cheap but then he is only going to use it to go along canal paths with his 6 year old son and through parks/forests rather than 100 mile sportives that I do on a road bike. I was thinking if it is this is her budget it is going to be very heavy so may be better looking at a hybrid for a similar price as that may be a bit lighter and still ok for riding round a forest with his Son.
I don't like using Halfords myself, but decent bike shops don't really list bikes under £300.

Surely even a roadie can tell that that is a POS. Not even worth the "%50" off price tag.0

£130 is about the right price, it's not a mountain bike though (not really any sort of a bike).....
A reasonable used bike would be much better than anything new, you can pick up a disc braked Carrera Vulcan for about £100-130 from circa 2010 and it will be 5 times better a bike.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Don't get me wrong, I know it is terrible, my wheels cost twice as much as this but at the same time if he isn't going to use it much I thought he may get away with it. I will have a look for some second hand ones, thanks.0
