After looking at a few and realising I have no clue what to look for I found these forums and read a few topics. Decided on http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/product-rev ... ke-p275612 but its out of stock in my closest store (southampton) all other stores are atleast 70 miles away.

Any other suggestions?

Try going in your nearest store and see if they can order one in for you?
  • I rang them just now they said to ring back on thursday, was just wondering if there is anything out there that is better.

  • Yeah but surely buying £400 of 2014 bike is going to be better value than £400 of 2012 bike. At least in most cases? (honest question)

They are the newer versions of the same bikes as far as I can see

If you could stretch the budget slightly, I would look at the Voodoo Hoodoo, it got great reviews when it was released and I am sure it was What Mountan Bike's budget choice, currently with the web offer it works out to £459.99 at halfords

  • Unfortunately I am only looking to really spend £350 so I was already stretching it to £400. Thanks for your help btw.

In hardly any cases - and not all refresh the model every year either.

Travel the 70 miles. It's not far and it will be worth it.

That is THE best bike for sub £400, certainly by enough to warrant a 140 mile round trip.

Most 2014 bikes are less good value than 2012, it's called inflation!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • I don't currently have access to a car or a way to get it home Southampton is the furthest I can reasonably travel by train and cycle back.

Yeah I know, as I said previously its only for the 18 inch frame, which is too small for me.

Sorry, missed that. That's odd. Phone 'em and tell 'em that's bøllocks and they have to send you a big one!

How do you know it's too small if you haven't tried it? Try if you can!
