Specialized Purgatory/Ground Control - Which ones?

Hi,

Need a new set of tyres as the Conti Mountain King/X King Combo is not to my liking - for a 2.2tyre they come up very narrow and the MK carcass is showing lots of thread to the sidewalls already.

Having looked on here a lot of people recommend Specialized Purgatory/Ground Controls. I am on a 29er Canyon Nerve and ride the Dales so lots of loose & rocky/grassy bridleways and plenty of rocks too.

What would be the best combo of these tyres for this riding?

Thanks for the advice.

I'm on 26" too but love these.........
    Specialized Butcher on front
    Specialized Ground control on rear

Was dubious as first as the shop I bought them from recommended them as he uses this combo on his 29er but can say these are really good tyres and fairly cheap.

No experience of the Purgatory or Ground Control but can say the Butcher is the completely wrong replacement for a Mountain King. Even the 2.4 Protection MK II's are way faster and lighter than the Butcher is so it'll be even worse compared to the 2.2. Only reason to replace the MK with a Butcher is if you're wanting more grip but it sounds like the OP just wants a fairly similar replacement that is a bit tougher.
