Cycle scheme Dilemma..wheels & bike

My situation is I have an Orca with DT Swiss RR1850 wheels on it. The wheels are old, at least 6 years old, and I bought them used. I have had no problems with them at all, and I'm not the lightest person BUT they are old and the white version so looking tatty - and I have the opportunity to change them.
I also need/would like a winter hack. My plan is to get a cheap road bike - £500 is the cheapest the LBS have which would leave another £500 to spend on wheels. The plan is to buy new wheels for the Orca and put the DT Swiss on the winter bike.
So, which, if any, wheel sets would be an improvement on the DT's for about £500??
Personally I don't think there are many options from my limited research, but I put it out there to all you cycling sages to mull over...
