Hello all,
I'm fairly new to mountain biking after many years of cars and motorbikes.
I thought it was about time I combined my need for fitness with my love for going fast and modding so I figured it best to build my own bike and learn how they work along the way.
I got myself a frame off eBay, read every guide I could find whilst gathering parts and then got building having never built a bike before in my life!
I wanted something with decent travel being a bit of a lump and having plans to hit Cannock and maybe some Welsh trail centres in the near future so settled on a Mondraker Dune RR for no greater reason than it happened to come up at the right time for the right price. I also lucked into some factory tuned 2013 Marzocchi 55R forks for good money so had a good base.
Anyway, I started with this:
An example of my home made tool making in action...
And after many hours of research and parts accumulation I eventually ended up with this:
It's been great fun along the way with some hilarious mistakes but now it's done, I'm looking forward to hitting the local black runs and getting all the new components dialled in.

Fair play, I've never built my own bike from start to finish! Very nice bike that mate, not keen in the saddle though.Commencal Ramones Cromo 13 - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=129269380

Yeah the saddle was just something I had lying around the garage at the time but it will be swapped for something a bit more aesthetically pleasing in due course!0

About the mistakes you mean? The funniest being when I accidentally put the chain round the wrong side between the two derallier jockey wheels and wondered why the chain wouldn't track right...0 -
