Hi there,

Me and a friend are wanting to ride across the Yorkshire Dales, taking as much off road as we can. Has anyone done this and does anyone have a route they can email or one online they can link to.

I know The Crossing took a route over the Dales but I have read that a lot of it was on the roads. Is this true or was it a good route?

The only criteria I need to follow is A:start in the West B: end in Wensleydale (or as near to).

Thanks everyone

By ending in "Wensleydale" I assume you mean Masham rather than Hawes, or it would be a v short ride!?

My suggestion is buy the OS maps, and make up your own route using a mixture of the obvious bridleways on the maps plus trying to link some of the routes on this website (so you know they are do-able):

(there are several on this website that go down parts of Wensleydale, plus others that might prove useful).

There is also now the Pennine Bridleway, which runs the wrong way, South to North, but might be useful occasionally for linking bits..?

Avoid "Green Lane" (near Dent) and "Black Rake" (NE of Ribblehead).
Cam High Road between Ribblehead-ish and Hawes is good surface.

Kirkby Lonsdale or Settle/Clapham might be appropriate starting points.

    Good luck!
